In the last year I have been the 1st Vice President of GFO as well as the Education Committee chair. I am also the FGS (Federation of Genealogical Societies) representative/contact. The previous volunteers in these positions quit abruptly, and I agreed to take them over.
In fall of 2006, we had Cindy Howells as our headline speaker. This was an outstanding seminar, and a good moneymaker for GFO.
The Education Committee also arranged to have monthly speakers in for the GFO monthly meetings; and we created a schedule for mini classes as well for the fall/winter and winter/spring.
In spring of 2007, we had Paul Milner as our headline speaker. This was yet another outstanding seminar for GFO members. It too was a moneymaker.
The Education Committee has also arranged for speakers for fall 2006, spring 2007 and fall 2007. Those speakers are: Christine Rose, Rick Sayre, and Paul Milner.
The FGS representative work has been minimal, as I haven’t had the time to give that it needs. When FGS sends out their newsletter to societies, I forward that newsletter to all board members. FGS has many wonderful opportunities for societies. I’d like to find someone to take over this responsibility that has the time to attend the FGS national meetings and help our society grow with new ideas.

Higgins Room Calendar
Two new interest groups have been added in the last year, the DNA & British/Scots/Wales group - this can bring added bodies to the FORUM but does present a possible scheduling problem in the future if we get more interest groups - which we should be encouraging.
I will send on to the new person the emails of the various groups that I have. Marty reported 'nothing new'. Most of the groups reported nothing. The Illinois Interest Group -is- doing something different right now. They are taking a "virtual genealogy vacation" together. As they go someplace...or do something...or read something ...appropriate it is going out as a message to all. For example, if they were to find just the site to locate marriages in a certain county in Illinois, they would write that up and send it to Kristy. From there it would go out to everyone and we would all learn about it...and share the feeling of a little trip to Illinois.

CMD Annual Report
FY 2005-2006
Its been a good year. We have a great crew of people working behind the scenes to keep our Library alive and growing. This report names those volunteers who have worked the most consistently and the most hours. There are many, many others who may have worked fewer hours, but whose efforts are needed and appreciated. Thank you to all.
Acquisitions
A book budget of $1500.00 brought us new material focused on a handful of states (OH, CA/NY/IN/Irish, OR, Pac. NW). Location and subject choices were largely based on the last membership survey . Barb Pace worked for many hours to find the best choices and did a great job.
Thank you to all members who made donations to the Library Acquisition Fund or who donated library materials. Your donations to the Acquisition Fund covered our book-buying budget and donations of library materials provided additional items of great value to the Library; materials we would not have on our shelves otherwise.
In addition, there were three Dedicated Funds in 2005-2006: Betty Lou Kennedy Memorial Fund (Swiss research material); Robinson/Kaiser Fund (mostly OH research material); Krauter/Altria Fund (Italian research material). These special focus funds are a wonderful way to improve specific areas of our collection and we are all grateful to the donors.
Processing
Many volunteers helped make the processing of materials quick and efficient. The following people could be counted on to be available (almost) every week of the year and worked many hours to stamp, label, and shelve new materials: Jane Olsen, Jean Nauman, Diane ODell, William Smith, Claude Pat Patton, Jan Robinson, Gerry Lenzen, Barb Pace. Lorna Bates has single-handedly kept up with the flow of new books to be reviewed; Im sure you all enjoy reading her reviews in the Bulletin each month. Jerry Zimmer has kept up with the binding no matter how many times we fill his in-box.
Collection Maintenance
Our biggest story for the year is the inventory. We are about 45% finished with an inventory of all Library materials. This includes making label adjustments and general repairs as needed. Doing an inventory is not the most stimulating activity and we all owe a large thank-you to the dedicated inventory crew for their many hours of work; Jan Robinson and Gerry Lenzen top the list.
A few of this years special projects deserve special mention:
Cathy Lauer has assumed responsibility for the Vertical File collection and has created a database of all file folder names. This database has been added to the Library catalog.
A Most Recent Issue area has been created for our new periodicals.
Roger Ostrom has created a folio system to store our large flat maps: a handful of volunteers will soon be sorting, organizing and creating a finding aide.
The Manuscript Collection is on its way to being organized. The GRIO inventory was completed last year. Since then Duane Funk, Betty Gibson, and Diane ODell have made a good start on the long task of making a finding aide for each collection.
It takes many hands to manage a library the size of ours. If any of the projects in this report sound interesting to you (or if you have ideas for improving the Library) please join us. There are many jobs waiting and we welcome all helpers.
EDITORIAL DIVISION REPORT
by LYLETH WINTHER
June 2006
During the past year, I edited and created part of the pages for 8 monthly Forum Insider newsletters, and 4 Bulletin quarterly magazines. My thanks to all the many contributors who furnished articles or information that needed to be put before the eyes of our member readers. Our thanks to the Writing Contest winners of 2005, who allowed us to print their stories. My thanks to Cathy Lauer for indexing the quarterly magazine, and to Bruce Conrad for proofing on both the newsletter and quarterly magazine. And thanks to all those in the printing shop, and mail preparation crews who readied the issues for delivering to the U.S. Post Office. It was truly a group effort.
Because it was the 60th year of our group, I tried to re-create covers for The Bulletins, using designs from years ago. Also, I tried to include at least 1-2 pages of meeting minutes, write-ups about the past open houses, and guide line list for using the first library books that were kept in people’s homes. In the Forum Insider newsletter, I tried to gather items for a Did you Know column, visited libraries within one and a half hours distance (along with Cathy Lauer), and wrote up articles about those libraries’ genealogical collection of books.

In FY 2005-2006, the print shop logged 110 jobs. These jobs included:
* 6 books printed or reprinted
* Bulletin (4) and Insider (8)
* fall seminar flyers, etc.
* spring seminar flyers, etc.
* mini-class materials
* membership directory
* donation forms
* business and soundex cards
* ballot
* outside jobs for members (included a 15% charge over cost)
Records Extraction Committee -
* State of Oregon Vital Records: The marriage books for 1934 are more than half
computerized. After 1934 is proofed, the second CD will be cut. The five year period for his cd will be 1930-34. Volunteers working in the group are Marie Diers, who cracks the whip, Eileen Chamberlin, John Holt, Iris Holt, Anita Holt, Roberta Hudson, Loretta Welsh, Sam Butler, Irene Little, Jim Rogers, Larry Sullivan and Shirley Bush.
* The Spencer Leonard file is complete. Eileen is working with Jim Rogers to complete a new and better index to the 1890 Veterans census for Oregon and has found a number of errors in the Spencer Leonard as a result. They are attempting to finish the census and are about halfway through. It will offer a more complete and more accurate file when it's published in cd form. Not only that but the Forum will also have a better, more accurate index to the 1890 census.
* The Multnomah county probate file is moving along just fine and is in the computer through the Ri's. Cathy Lauer was working on that file. She has "retired" and we need a new volunteer.
* The really early Multnomah county marriage records from the books previously published
(there was no database file, only printed copy) have been input by Loretta Welsh and Eileen Chamberlin, then proofed by Jim Rogers. The database files were sent to Larry Sullivan to format. Kathy Cardoza added them to the Forum's website.
* Sam Butler did the input on the Lottie Gurley obit file and Eileen Chamberlin did theproofing. The second one is being proofed. Sam is working on the rest of the obit notebooks by Lottie, and as soon as he is finished, it will be proofed and put up on thewebsite also.
