If you've ever had a problem with your computer, chances are it was a good learning experience in reminding you to backup your hard drive. Whether caused by power failure or machine failure, data losses can create many hassles, not to mention lost hours, days or even years of work. And it's good to remember to back up your data often.

Ultimate Family Tree allows you to generate a web page, and the program will also generate a web page at the genealogy.com site. With the demise of Ultimate Family Tree, it is unknown how long our web pages might still be available to view from the UFT site.

This question was asked at an October 2000 meeting: "I have recently found some early census records for my ancestor, which I photocopied. I've also transcribed the information into a census extraction e-form, which has been saved as an MS-Word document. I know that if I scan the photocopy, I can attach to my ancestor's record as a media file. But what about the Word document? I'm experimenting with OLE but I don't think I'm approaching the problem correctly."

If you're using Version 3.0 it's really easy to remove unused places in UFT. Just save the project using separate libraries and the project will just have the places and sources that are connected to that project.

If you have received that intimidating message "missing place" while working on a project, you might wonder what happened.
